When I was originally checking out info on my lot in Holiday Lake Estates, I was given a section of the original plat map.\u00a0 On it was the phrase S. C. Hiroms League.\u00a0 That led me to further research – back to the Texas Independence Revolution.\u00a0 I found this information about\u00a0Samuel Cartmill\u00a0Hiroms:<\/p>\n

“The small Liberty County company of Capt. S. C. Hiroms (aka Hirams)\u00a0was mustered on December 8, 1835, while the battle was in progress, but did not reach there until about two weeks later.” (–> Click Here for more<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

Samuel (senior) was one of Stephen F. Austin’s original 300 colonists.\u00a0\u00a0 In 1830 Samuel C. Hiroms established a community called Smithfield about a mile south of the present site of Ace. The settlement, a stopping point on the Liberty-Nacogdoches road, was originally known as Smith’s Field, after an early settler named Robert Smith. A group of Coushatta Indians lived nearby.\u00a0July 25,\u00a01831 Samuel acquired 1 league (4428 acres)\u00a0of land surrounding that area. The town was moved nearer its present location in 1840 and became a steamboat landing on the Trinity River.<\/p>\n

He had a son, Samuel C. Hiroms (jr), born on 2\/29\/1836.\u00a0 Samuel junior served as a Confederate in the civil war, from 1861 – 1865.\u00a0 Emily Ann Johnston [ born 1\/29\/1853] married Samuel Cartmill Hiroms July 16,1869 in Polk Co.Tx (supposedly on a ferry boat at Drews Landing).\u00a0\u00a0He and Emily later moved to the Creek Community of Houston Co. Texas having 6 boys and 6 girls. Their homestead was adjacent to what is now the Austonio Baptist Church, on state highway 21, in Austonio TX. If you get the historical book, Surveying in Texas, you will find more info on Samuel junior.\u00a0 He also received land for his services<\/var>.<\/div>\n

HLE Connection:\u00a0 I am not sure if the land that HLE sets on was from Samuel senior or junior’s leagues, but I do know that junior was the surveyor who did that first abstract on HLE.\u00a0 Here is the pic of my original plat map:<\/div>\n
